Young Kelowna
Meet the TeamThe world has changed a lot and growing up is different too. Young Kelowna is where kids can learn about themselves and their friends. Knowing the “why” can help you make decisions that are best for you. It’s also a place where parents can better understand their kids and what’s going on in their lives.
*Health and Wellness Index for Kelowna Youth: Growing Healthy Children is the official name of our study, but it’s a mouthful and sounds way more boring that it is!
Who is behind the scenes?
Young Kelowna is a platform developed to share the results of a research project* from UBC Okanagan.
We gathered data from 400 Kelowna students in grades 4–9, with the help of six schools and Central Okanagan Public Schools.
This info helps us understand what it means to grow up in Kelowna today and how we can help kids like you take care of your own well-being.
A HUGE thank you to the Stober Foundation and TD Bank, who provided the funding to make this project happen.
Want More Details?
There’s not much info about the health and well-being of young people growing up in British Columbia, particularly in Kelowna. We decided to do something about it.
Led by Dr. Ali McManus and Dr. Lesley Lutes, Health and Wellness Index for Kelowna Youth: Growing Healthy Children is a joint effort between the PERL and CORE labs. Our goal was to assess sedentary behaviour, sleep, physical activity, diet, cardiovascular health, psychological and social health.
